Open Source

Open source software is publicly accessible and can be modified, updated and shared. Open source software is not ‘owned’ by anyone so there are no licence fees or costs associated with using it (though once enhanced developers may charge to use software for specific purposes). The benefit of using Open Source software rather than propriety software is that changes can be made so the software does exactly what the developer wants rather than having limited options available on propriety software.
